If you've wondered where the 4 GB of storage space is on the D2 Pad 721 tablet, here's the information that's not provided in the product manual.
The D2-721 tablet has a built in storage drive consisting of 3 partitions:
- Partition 1 is the System ROM which is approx. 1.5 GB
- Partition 2 is the Internal Storage which is approx. 1 GB
- Partition 3 is the NAND Flash which is approx. 1.5 GB
Combining the Internal Storage and NAND Flash partitions, you end up with about 2.5 GB of available space.
The article below provides instructions on how to fully utilize the available 2.5 GB.
If you look to the left, under Internal Storage I have 217 MB of available space out of a total 0.98 GB. This is not very reassuring knowing that there are a ton of great apps out there which I may not have already installed.
So what about the NAND Flash - 1.46 GB of total space shown in the bottom half of the image? How come there is a listing for Apps in both of these partitions?
Note: The performance of any app during launch and execution is not affected by the location of the app on either of the tablet's internal partitions based on my personal tests. Testing was done before and after moving the app to both partitions.
Go to Settings > Apps and slide over to "On SD Card".
The check mark indicates if the app is already on the secondary partition (NAND Flash partition).
Click on each app to see how much space it's taking up. Anything over 20 megabytes to me is considered large enough to move.
Notice the option to "Move to SD card" circled in yellow.
FYI: This reference to SD card is not the micro SD card you may have inserted into the external micro SD card slot. With the current version of the Android OS on this tablet, apps cannot be moved to the external SD card. In this example, this SD card reference is just another name for the NAND Flash partition inside the tablet.
Moving large apps such as Netflix which is about 50 MB to the second partition allows the user to have their file storage well balanced.
Now you can install more apps and move the ones you really need to the second user partition.
